For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
1. It's used to explain children the possible events that may follow a thoughtless act.
2. It shows that small actions can result in large after effect.
3. The rhyme is thus a good illustration of the "butterfly effect", which proposes that a small change at one place can result in large differences later on.
